Thanks ET,

Thanks for the words about INSTALL. I saw it and thought it was a new 
script format I had missed.

I followed the INSTALL this afternoon with partial success.
It fussed about the dot h files, but gcc does that.
Still it ran part way but complained about a whole list of libraries it 
could not find.

Web search indicated that popt is a standard library. I have the basic 
popt liibrary installed in the machine.
I think I need to either figure out how to tell the compiler where the 
actual source files are, or find a copy of them and put the popt.h file 
into the mp490 directory.
