Laptop repair

I bought a new laptop for myself - developing java code with only 512 MB was
too slooooooooow. I had planned on upgrading my daughter's laptop from the
current PIII 800 to this one (PIV 1.4), but I need to get it to work with
the 1 GB of RAM. So, I am back to looking for a reputable repair shop that
does not charge an arm and a leg.......

I remember testing both memory slots as well as both sticks. Either the
machine will not boot with memory only in the second slot or both sticks
passed memtest in both high and low slots.
