Also remember, someone said you only have 32MB of video memory, anything
over that uses systems ram.

You probably need to force the higher resolution, then.  You may be able to
use the monitor resolution configuration tool to get a higher res, or you
may need to hand-modify an xorg.conf file to set the resolution to the
native resolution of your LCD panel.
