Actually, I get contacts who found me on Elance and Guru who request assistance.
I have found that 9 out of 10 users who post a project actually need something else, and end up following up with people they connect with via the question phase, rather than complete the original process.

Some full time remote gigs are filled here also from both a bid type process and job based contract process.
What is key is filling out your profile well, with full information, work examples, companies: (skymall, choicehotels.com, nike, Warner Pacific College, teleport.com, ucinet.com, uunet.com, spiretech.com, affinityvoiptelecom.com, icrossing.com, transport.com, world.net, ausnet.com, nike.com, GST Telecommunications, Payline Systems, stonehenge.com, polarsystems.com, wolfe.net, U.S. Army [Unix], hitechfish.com, U.S. Bank/Key Bank, STC Telecommunications [to name just a few] in my case) and add sufficient information in your bid (also you only get like 3 bids a month on their free features).
There are of course, the offshore cheap labor, however; as I recently posted to the list, but employers and IT professionals get what they pay for.

I've not heard good things about any of these sites. I hear projects are under bid and most of the prospects I talk to tell me they do not trust the developers on those sites.

I have never used them so I have no personal experience.

For all you Freelancers, come compete with me for IT gigs:
http://www.guru.com

http://www.elance.com
http://www.getafreelancer.com/
Of course there are gigs and services on Craigslist.org but be ready to filter out the work for nothing or trade access to porn portals for your work, or maintain non-legal/ethical spam servers, etc.

Hi, I have a friend who is a Cobol and Basic programmer on Open VMS. He is doing an out of state project right now and has recently moved to the Phoenix area.

I'm writing this to see if anyone on the list knows of any long term or short term positions for Cobol and/or Basic on Open VMS.

Thanks in advance for your help.
