OT:Switch boosts ethernet?

Thank you all for the input and experiences.  In this case we need to
do live video streaming through the long connection.  We are reluctant
to just run a cable that "should" work so we will use a router or
switch in the middle of the run.

BTW, my reading shows that the distance is a limitation of the
Ethernet protocol.  The distance creates latencies that are too high
for the acknowledge packets, etc.  Interesting education for me.
