Unsupported Devices

The following devices have been discovered to not currently work with MidpSSH. NOTE These devices may now work using the HTTP Proxy feature available in version 1.5 and later.

 LG C1300 (No socket support)
 LG G5400 (No socket support)
 LG KG800
Fly 2080. Any midpssh binary is run
correctly any secure key of any length is generated, but only ssh v1
with password authentication works, you will have a ‘writer:’ error in
any other configuration.
Motorola V551 (Writer access denied exception, search forum for workarounds)
 Nokia 3510i (No socket support)
Nokia 3100 cannot handle applications larger than 63K,
so only ssh1-lite version should work. However, since ssh1 is not very
secure, it is (or should be) disabled on most ssh servers.
Sony Ericsson Z600 (No socket support, mysterious reboots when using full version and no obfuscation version of midpssh)
BlackBerry 7250 (Telus CDMA) OS v4.0 with BIS (no BES) Software works, HTTP proxy works but TELUS doesn’t allow a connection. Should work with BES.
Samsung E900. I get an session
error after the Connecting... OK: “Reader: available was failed.”. My
sshd log says: “Did not receive identification string from
<IP-addresss>”. Info: marcel (underscore) xk72 (at) datkan (dot)
net
Samsung Z370. I get the same information as above (E900). Didn’t

try with proxy. (on 1.7 too)

 Samsung Blackjack (aka i607).
Socket support is disabled for midlets without a signature from
AT&T (which they are willing to do but not sure if free). HTTPProxy
may be an option.
Audiovox 8915 with Virgin Mobile. The handset supports sockets and HTTP, but Virgin blocks socket connections. HTTP proxy mode works for about ten seconds and then is blocked by Virgin’s proxy. More Info. (C. Markwardt)

 Samsung Blackjack (i607) Will work
through port 80 if your ssh server is configured for port 80. Add :80
to your hostname in the Sessions setup. example: acmecompany:80. Also
you have to install IBM’s Java Runtime. The default Java Machine that
comes with the Blackjack doesn’t work with MidpSSH.

Crippled firmware

 Motorola v3xx with o2 germany
branding. This branding disables java applications from using tcp
connections. Only wap connections are possible. Neither MidpSSH nor
Google Maps work. You have to reflex the phone with original Motorola
firmware, then it works perfectly. “Das Autotelefon” (which is
Motorola’s support company in Germany) will do that for 37€. You can do
it yourself, but you would lose warranty.

Check out midpssh - works on BlackBerry, and most PDA's - since it's compiled for various ARM and other phone devices.

http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/

Point your phone browser to install:

http://xk72.com/wap

Security Disclaimer:
Remember to limit your server SSH access points (where possible) through ACL [iptables] by IP [check your phone settings for IP address], use strong passwords, and deploy daemon wrappers like SSHIT or SSHUTOUT [to protect against brute force and dictionary attacks], enable strong logging and log servers [so the logs can't be trivially edited] and alternately run on a unique port (not 2222 [everyone uses 2222]) if you MUST leave SSH open to PSTN/Internet gateways.
