ooops, forgot to do an actual traceroute.
When I went to
   http://www.t1shopper.com/cgi-bin/nph-trace.cgi
and tried it, the output was (see below);
(maybe this means that they allow "usual" web
   requests [packets?] to get through,
   but perhaps somehow when using a
   traceroute packet type or something, it
   makes a difference?  I think this was
   explained earlier in this thread, but I did not
   understand that [explanation] completely).
