802.11 problem solved

Just in case anyone else over comes across this: after returning the
previous NIC and getting another (but based on the same ZD1211B
chipset)
the same problem happened, even on a winblows machine. So I called the
help desk of the people who installed it, and they apparently can do
SMTP to our network here or something because he immediately said the
router was down and to cycle the power, which I did (I work here).
The router in question apparently is a cheap Netgear cable/DSL "router"
that's being used as a proxy so all internal addresses are in
192.168.x.x
space.

Bottom line: I'm now writing to you on my Linux box, albeit I had to
configure the dongle by hand--I'll fix that tomorrow.

Special Thanks to George for trying to help earlier!

And I hope to see you guys at this next meeting--after looking at the
PLUG web site, it's obviously this group is a lot healthier than the
LUG where I come from (www.rlug.org).

Mike
