audio unavailable: device busy

Here's what happens, the computer is happily making noise then I leave it for 
a few hours (5-8). When I get back it sounds garbled. This time I got this 
error message.

How do I make it available? What do I kill? Do you think k/ubuntuu would be 
better. The reason I haven't switched over to it as of yet is because I fear 
change.

I think I should put my fears behind me now!
