Host name redirect?

Then why not have multiple points in the DNS point to the same IP
address
Forward lookup zone
	Company.dns
		Name Type Address
		newName	Host(A) 192.168.x.x
		oldName	Alias (CNAME)	newName.company.dns

Again my apache box works fine off of several names using this schema.

The old box is staying up but will be redeployed for other non-critical
uses. It's name will change. The plan is to keep the same IP but we
could change that too. Both new and old have static IP assignments.

Internal only and local to the subnet. Not FQDN's

Just the host name, not the domain.

Obviously we could rename and change IP on the old box and then just
rename and change the IP on the new box to take it's place. We don't
want to do that for various reasons, including the old name is function
based and no longer fits the new purpose.
