mixing IDE and serial ATA

Mark,

You may find a few differences if using SATA and IDE drives together. For
example:

/dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc... will most-likely be your SATA drives.
/dev/hdx will most-likely be your IDE drives.

Also note that some motherboards do not permit both SATA and IDE to be
utilized for hard drives. (Some boards disable primary IDE channel when
SATA is enabled. You may need a BIOS update to make it work correctly.) I
have experienced this in the field at the beginnings of SATA. (Not sure if
it's an issue now.)
