You said that my message was offensive to you, 
so I am writing this note (privately) to apologize 
to you. 

Perhaps you're right.  Perhaps it is a stupid, old 
fashioned notion to think that ridiculing someone 
and making them the butt of a joke is mean-spirited 
and serves no good purpose. 

Sorry for offending you and for not being able to 
"get it" when I am made the butt of a joke.
