Samba Connection

   Hi everyone,
   
  trying to connect XP media Center version 2002 sp 2 to samba running on Fedora core 5.  It was working with my laptop running XP-home.
   
  I cannot determine which samba is running - tried /usr/sbin/smbd -v but I get nothing .. even tried a restart .. still no version.
   
  I can see the samba partition in the file browser but get no user prompt to login and access.  Looked around google but found just the same question and no real answer.
   
  Any help appreciated,
