how to copy files from knoppix /mnt/hda# to /mnt/sda1 ?

Thanks Jeremy.  That worked. 

Curious, though, as I had been able to copy files yesterday 
using Knoppix 3.3, so before receiving your message, I rebooted 
with 3.3 and it worked fine, whereas Knoppix 3.6 did not allow 
the writing without entering the command you suggested.
