SUSE/YAST Repositories

I had tried about 5 of the servers listed on the opensuse page for
additional rep. servers before my original post, but they didn't help .
Eventually I was able to add a few that I found elsewhere that had what I
needed (Kismet and Nessus). I think the boxed version of SUSE comes with a
lot of software that the open version might not install.

I really like SUSE 10. It was the only distro I found that installed on my
laptop perfectly. I thought the installer was slick; most of the advanced
defaults were already how I wanted them and it was very easy to configure
the settings I wanted to change. Comes with a lot of nice software and it
even got my synaptics touchpad working right away. When I installed windoze
xp I had to go get a driver from Dell.

I'm even thinking about replacing my Gentoo desktop with SUSE. Mainly
because I've been having headaches with the audio mysteriously going out on
Gentoo ever since I installed it. I really love the Gentoo Hardened kernel
sources and emerge though.

Oh, btw, my Z-Com325hp+ pcmcia wlan card works really great with SUSE.
PrismII chipset.

Yeah, you can't really beat Gentoo for the sheer amount of packages
available.  Actually, even Debian and Fedora spank SUSE when it comes to
package variety.

AFAIK, there aren't any YaST repositories with a decent number of
security apps.  A recent thread on the suse-security list (just last
month) made it clear that the best way to get, say, Nessus 3.x is
directly from nessus.org.

FWIW, pretty much all of the third party repositories are listed here:

I don't use YaST for software installation, personally.  I use 'smart'
on top of either APT-RPM or YUM.
