Debian as a desktop system

I've been using Kanotix for some time now. It uses KDE. It's the only 
distro out of many I've tried that just worked perfectly out of the 
box. Everything worked: Printer, sound, modem, CD-burner... It's 
beautiful.

It's a live-cd based on Debian Unstable. If you want to install it to 
your harddrive, it becomes straight Debian Unstable. It doesn't 
require special distro-specific repositories for packages like some 
of the Debian-based distros do.
