Hardware question

I have a book with a schematic for something like that... but it's a 1960s 
project book, lots of discrete transistors, hand-wiring, and "the wire has to be 
about 4.7 inches long to minimize static."  Also only one output (probably 
modifiable, given they give you a full diagram)

If it's of interest, I could lend you the book.
