lpr problems

Ok, this has me stumped. Maybe someone can point me to something that I can't 
see.

Printing was working for me until yesterday.

I have a wireless USB printserver.
It is working. I can ping it, I can connect to it http://192.168.1.106:631 and 
do admin stuff.

my Laptop has cupsd running.
I can connect to it as http://localhost:631 and do admin stuff
I can even see the printer set up ok in the browser.
I can even print a test page.

All looks good.

However, if I do a lpq I get this:
> lpq: Unable to contact server!

if i try printing like:
echo hello | lpr      I get:
lpr: error - scheduler not responding!

Anybody got a pointer for me?
