DLT and Debian

The st module is pre-built for kernel packages from debian.

modprobe st

cat /proc/scsi/scsi to see if the tape drive is recognized.

/dev/nst0 is the non-rewind device, /dev/st0 is the rewind device. Always
use the non-rewind device unless you explicitly need the rewind device.

mt is used to manipulate the tape drive. mtx is for libraries.
