here's another thought. you could make the case that the .doc format is 
inaccessible under the terms of the ADA (in my case, I know I can). also, 
their policy is definitely not up with the times. because of accessibility 
issues, they are required to provide a copy of the application upon request 
in whatever format is requested (at least in my case, being blind, this is 
factual).

still, you might want to point this out to them, or bump it up the chain and 
see who falls when its yanked hard.
