CPU speed testers..?

It's because your CPU is running not only itself but another computer
too.  This is like caring for a newborn (not that I have) where one does
not get any rest because there are caring for themselves AND another
person.  You could be a 3.2Ghz CPU and MAYBE get 1Ghz out of VMWare.
