Sure... many times. Haven't with Mdk 9.1 yet but at least a couple times with
Mdk 9.0 and going all the the way back to RH 6.

I have friends currently using it w/ Mdk 8.2 and Mdk 9.0.

The only time I have seen connection problems like you desribed was while
using incorrect combinations of modem/init string. (Negotiations would fail
during auth and the startup of ppp)
