I am a CISSP candidate, and let me tell you, there is a ton of stuff to
learn and read.  I thought I had a clue about security when I started,
and have since learned I knew only a small portion of what is required. 
It has given me a strong appreciation for OS architecture, like why the
hell would a company put video drivers in protection ring 0, so a fault
in the driver causes your kernel to crash?  I'm sure glad Unix and Linux
don't do this.

Beware the study materials will cost as much, if not more, than the
exam, and the effort and expense to maintain the cert are considerable.
