\_ So I'll ask this question once again: Does anyone
\_ within this esteemed group of wizards know of an ICQ
\_ client for Linux that actually works?

I've got a local jabber server with the icq transport and it works
fine for the folks on icq. It also supports various other protocols
through transports. There's a double handful of clients out there
from GUI to emacs to CLI. Works good for me. YMMV.

Have you tried micq? That might be more current. At one point there
was a page of linux icq clones but I haven't checked it in ages and it
was kind of slipping out of date when I last checked it.

Search freshmeat and google.

ps: I once wrote an emacs hook that would jabber an unfortunate soul
every time I saved a file. mwahahaha. That was almost as good as
tripping JLF's kibo filter in the mail headers. :-)
