< Thoughts on InstallFest > some newbie thoughts

I have been reading about all the things in the list
about the classes, installfest, and meetings, and I
thought I would give my thoughts as a newbie.  

1. When it comes to the classes, I think that samba
should be a topic.  I have been fighting with samba
for three days now, and samba is kicking my butt. (I
will be asking for help on this later.)

2. Another idea for newbies wanting to learn more
about *nix, I would recommend Thurman's class.  It
might cost a little bit, but I took his class last
spring, and not only Thurman was a great teacher but
it was a great place to learn *nix from a beginners
stand point.  When I started the class I never even
logged into a unix machine.  By the end of the course
I was running Mandrake as a dual boot.

3. I read a comment about having meeting guided
towards newbies.  From my standpoint this might not be
such a bad idea.  I have been to a few meeting at ASU,
and quite often you guys are talking way over my head.
But then that might be what the classes are for.

4. As for the installfest, I think this is great what
you all are doing and I would like to help.  I am not
sure where I would fit in with every thing, but I
would like to do what I can.

  I am student at ASU, If you all have some sort of
flyer and post info. on the web site, I will go over
to ASU and post flyers.  I can try to get something in
the State Press, put up flyers around campus, and even
go in before certain classes and write info. on boards
about the installfest.
