Is the cable connecting the firewall to the hub lighting up the port light
on the hub?  I agree with Anthony, it sounds like a physical layer issue.

what do you mean? i have it set up like this

internet --> gateway box --> firewall --> hub --> network

is there something wrong with that that i dont know about?
