Thanks that worked. I was trying with the -s switch (still don't understand that). 

btw I'm trying this with Cox's webmail tool again so the charter set may be screwed up again. I've posted their support but still haven't heard back on it.

Here's an example of setting your date/time:

Today's date is 06/14 and it's 10:20AM, so I'd type:

date 06141020

Use the 2 digit day, followed by the 2 digit month, followed by the 2
digit hour followed by the 2 digit minute.
