Since you already have an optical mouse, I will assume you are not talking 
about performance.

In terms of configuration and setup, it uses the exact same protocols as the 
Intellimouse (assuming you have the newer ones with a wheel) so that no 
adjustments are necessary.  Well, we will have to reconfigure your /dev/mouse 
to point to the USB mouse, but that is easy.

Anyways, they work great.  I have used few MS Optical, a Belkin optical, and a 
few of the Logitech optical without any problems.  As the cliche goes, I'm 
never going back to a ball mouse again!
