simple GRUB question

Hey all,
I am trying to use a grub splash image and I added the
line

splashimage=(hd0,a)/boot/grub/image.xpm.gz

into my /boot/grub/menu.lst file. I also placed the
gzipped image in the grub directory. The problem is
that the image does not display (it's 640x480 and 16
bit color). Is there anything else that must be done
to get the splash image working. Does GRUB 0.92 come
built with splash image support by default?

BTW hd0,a is the root FreeBSD partition so that line
should be correct if you were wondering. Thanks for
the help.
