OT: crappy OS's

Just putting my $.02 worth in...
I use and support win98, 2k, and XP as well as Linux. Win98SE has the best
support of hardware, hands down, IMHO. A lot of software vendors still
recommend using Win98SE if possible due to its stability. However, the
vulnerability in ALL windows OS's is how other software modify the operating
system in such a way that either other programs fail to work anymore or that
uninstalling them causes programs to fail. Some vendor's like to replace
critical windows system files or other mainstream files with their own
version so that they can cause the system as a whole to do something
different for them. (like Norton Crash Guard) then along comes some other
program that wants to replace the same file. Windows operating systems
almost never crash on their own accord unless they are beta or XP. :) It is
usually the interaction of programs that causes it. If it is the registry
that is causing the problems, good luck! ..and go find your install disk
again...

Linux programs do not do this, or at least I have yet to see one do it.
Linux has its issues, but so far as I have seen they have been distribution
related.

I upgraded one of my PCs from Win98SE to Win2k (clean wipe and reinstall)
and had to triple the memory right off the bat. I lost the support for my
Adaptec CDROM direct CD because it didn't work under Win2k. I still keep it
though because I need to know it.
