First, keep notes on what you do, Charlie.  It will be helpful for everyone 
else helping novices.

Konqueror is nice, but you need to do some things to make Java/Javascripts 
work right.  Both Netscape and Mozilla will do nicely for web browsing and 
contain the java/js stuff automatically

Kmail is easy to use for email and easy to learn.  So are Netscape and 
Mozilla mail readers.

Star Office is a powerful set of programs.  Does she really need all that for 
word processing?  What kind of word processing is she going to be doing?
