Yes, if the modem can see 2 nics, it will report them to cox's dhcp server and
the server will barf.  It actually does respond but you get a bunch of
"DHCPOFFER in wrong transaction"/"DHCPACK in wrong transaction".  The trick is
that you can't have any other nics visible to the modem (i.e., connected to the
hub) when you make the DHCP request.  I unplugged all my nics, got an IP for my
firewall, then plugged them back in.  We shall see what happens when it tries to
renew the lease.

So, I think you should have no problem doing the initial install with dhcp, just
unplug any extra nics.
