You're right, it is a bad idea, but I didn't make myself very clear. Once=
 the=20
journal has been created and is initialized, you won't be able to see it.=
=20
(Shouldn't be able to see it)  So it seems to me as though that is just a=
=20
file taking up space.
If you have a knoppix cd handy, boot it, mount the drive, move that journ=
al,=20
then try to boot it, and see what happens. I would bet it works the same.=
 If=20
it doesn't, you can boot back to knoppix and put the journal back.

I've converted many ext2 to ext3 while mounted and not mounted and have o=
nly=20
seen the journal while it is being created.. And it was on a RedHat machi=
ne=20
if I remember correctly.

I didn't so much mean you weren't running ext3 as I meant I really doubt =
it is=20
using that file.
