Linux on a low-spec laptop

I didn't find that resource last night, but it looks like all the steps and 
issues I ran into as I successfully installed Slack on a p-166 with 32mb of 
Ram and a 2gig hard drive.  When I was done, I had 1.5gigs of free space (and 
I thought I was being a little overzealous when selecting packages =) lucky 
me).  The major problem with that installation was that the floppy drive is 
broken and the old BIOS won't boot the CD.  Lets all thanks Hans Lerman for 
Loadlin, though there really is nothing like the rush of realizing that if 
you don't get the installation right the first time you will have created a 
7lb boat anchor.

BTW semi-OT if anyone familiar with Laptop display issues could let me in on a 
couple tips.  The 800x600 TFT display is being shunted to 640x480.  It is 
probed correctly by XFree, but  then all the 800x600 display lines in the log 
file show "hsync out of range" as the dismissal reason.  Then it tells me it 
is defaulting to 640x480.  *shrugs*  Thanks
