This is the same that I get on a box without public keys on it.

I know this sounds basic but do you have these files configured like this:
Server Client
public key copied into file $HOME/.ssh/indentity
file $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys

Where the identity file was generated by keygen and the contents of
identity.pub were copied into the authorized_keys file on the server. You
are logging in as the same user on the client machine as the server
machine right? If not, this could be the problem as well. For instance,
when logged in as 'greg' on your local machine are you trying to log in as
root on the remote machine?

Once I got my config files and identity files figured out things jst
worked.
