It's a 'feature' Kevin :).

At one point I was seeing regularly occurring fs corruption with reiser, but
hard booting fixed the problem.

I was having RAM probs at the time, so presumed totally resetting the RAM
banks is what cleared up the problem.

This was with an early 2.4.x kernel.
