distutils/python & gnue

I obtained 2.1 via dselect (Debian "testing"). I agree,
there must be something wrong with the package.

I did uninstall all python packages yesterday, rebooted, and
then installed 2.1, then rebooted. 

Never had a problem like this before with deb packages :-(
