Nope, all messages from list subscribers go straight to the list, and
whether you receive a copy or not depends on the "me too" setting in your
mailing list options.

If you use Netscape, your problem may be that mailman doesn't think the
message is really from a subscriber; I believe there's a link that gets
tagged to the bottom of every message here that describes how to fix that.
