Killing processes by name

What i use if I am killing a user from a system

ps -ef |grep <username> |awk '{ print $2 }' |xargs kill -9


this will kill all procs being run by <username>

you can put what ever you want in the <username> and kill other
things includeing proc names.

if you just want to kill the java_vm procs though

killall -9 java_vm

should do fine
