Red Hat 7.0 - Star Office 5.2 - Does Java work?

I have read many FAQs, been to sunsolve.sun.com, supportforum.sun.com, home.germany.net/100-261485/patches/ and various other places. The result is that I now have 4 version of Java on my RH 7.0 system but none of them will work with Staf Office 5.2 for me, can someone enlighten me.

jdk1.1.7 and jdk1.1.8_v1 are accepted by the SO 5.2 Java Setup (displays Java Runtime Environment verified, or something similar), then it says that the new settings will come into effect when Star Office is restarted. When I restart Star Office and go to a web site, it says "No Java Environment Found", When jdk1.1.7 is used I can not get out of Star Office unless I "destroy" it. When jdk1.1.8_v1 is used, Staf Office simply shutsdown.

I have tried jre1.3.0_02 from Sun and the IBM version of jdk118, but Star Office will not recognize either of these as a valid Java Runtime Environment.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Incidentally, I enjoyed the presentation by George Toft at the PLUG meeting at GCC last month and look forward to the next meeting there. Thanks for bringing the PLUG to the west valley.
