USB - CD ROM

Perhaps I am trying to do the impossible...

Trying to use a USB - CD ROM (actually a CD-R but it would appear that the
distinction matters). Redhat 7.1 - Kernel 2.4.2 I think

added to modules.conf
 alias char-major-8 sd_mod

added to fstab
 /proc/bus/usb /mnt/usbcd usbdefs owner,exec,suid,ro,noautho 0 0

dmesg sees USB contoller and device but reports no driver available.

HELP!

less /proc/bus/usb/devices reports...
