From man ping:

...the round trip time of these packets is used in calculat­
ing the minimum/average/maximum round-trip time numbers.

The -T option is interesting:


-T timestamp option
Set special IP timestamp options.  Timestamp option may be either
tsonly (only timestamps), tsandaddr (timestamps and addresses),
or tsprespec host1 [host2 [host3 [host 4]]] (timestamp prepreci­
fied hops).
