Qwest, Windows ME, and Debian Linux

Ok, so exactly what hardware\software will I need to do all this the easiest 
way? At most, my mom will allow me to put an ethernet card in her machine 
since that's about the only thing she's ever seen, and she knows what it 
does. I can put almost anything onto my machine. I don't want to go through 
too much trouble to get this up and running, since i'm sure I'll have plenty 
of trouble with the Linux install.
