www.parsec.org has a right nice cross platform freeware space game
going to beta RSN with very playable (*) LAN alpha out now;
www.libsdl.org has links to games made with sdl, some free, some not.

(*) I've alas, only played it under winblows, since I don't have
sufficient hardware to drive a good game...until the end of the
month.  :-)
