Yes, it should be the same thing. Just use /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd reload or
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart. The "kill -1 pid" just tells inetd to
reload it's configuration file, so stopping and starting the xinetd daemon
will accomplish the same thing, AFAIK.
