just running X starts twm to get x to start with a Windows Manager you need to
do the following

go to your home dir do : vi .xinitrc

then insert ---  exec  ( windowmanager )

where ( windowmanager ) is the Window Manager you are going to use KDE Gnome
etc etc

again off the top of my head they are

exec start-kde

exec start-gnomesession

exec enlightenment

you will have to make sure that each WM bin file is your $PATH
