I have read so much of Nivens stuff it all becomes a blur.

My favorite was "The Integral Trees".

One of the interesting things about Nivens Bandersnatchi was that
once the word got out that they were sentient, they allowed a small number
of humans to visit their planet to hunt them.

Every now and then the hunter would come back.
