CD player won't, part 2

Hello again.  I'm still meddling with the KSCD CD-player in Mandrake 7.0.
It still can't detect that a CD has been inserted into the drive; it always
thinks it's ejected.  Has anyone encountered a similar problem?  I thought
it was a conflict with the "automount" feature, but I managed to turn that
off, it and didn't make any difference.
