syslog boot lag

As I was recovering from windows being stoopid about my second nic
(which had to be removed to boot coherently AND automatically), I
noticed that my boot sequence churned through everything mighty fast
(as per normal) *except* syslog.

System appears normal and 'rpm -V sysklogd' came back clean. File
system isn't full, karma feels high, I dunno.

Ideas?

TIA,
David
