CD ripper/encoders

Is there a GOOD CD ripper for Linux? I've tried the old 8hz-mp3 and was not
impressed. Now it cannot be found.
I purchased a license for MusicMatch that I think is a super product but only
works on Win machines.
Is there something similar? I don't mind paying for a quality product, but so
far haven't found anything comparable for Linux.
I know Linux has great players (I'm listening to the Doobie Brothers in XMMS
right now), but how about encoders?
